This piece envisions the Torah as a complete spiritual body. Genesis 1 is presented as a head with two sides: on the right, Genesis 1 from Toratah, and on the left, Genesis 1 from Torato. Together, they embody the feminine Divine and the masculine Divine in a unified spiritual head. In Hebrew, the Tav (ת) denotes future tense for the female, and the Yod (י) denotes future tense for the male.

The word “hoveh” (הוה) signifies present time and is the root for ‘being.’ In this piece, the word is highlighted with gold leaf. The Vov (ו) is extended to form a symbolic windpipe, while the Hehs (ה) represent the lungs.

Most readers engage with the Torah through translation, and all translations inherently reflect a cultural interpretation. Genesis 1 on the left side of the face is sourced from the JPS 1985 translation, incorporating the iconic opening verse found in most other translations. On the right side, Genesis 1 from Toratah in English represents an original translation crafted by Yael and her collaborator, Tamar Biala, with additional contributions from members of the Beit Toratah community.
